GERALD C. SLOAT - Boulder Injury Attorney
Gerald Sloat received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Rochester, his J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law in 1969 and began practicing law in New York City. He moved to Boulder Colorado in 1971.
Mr. Sloat has over 40 years of experience practicing personal injury law in Colorado. He has been awarded the highest possible rating in both legal ability and ethical standards by a national rating service and has been selected as a Colorado “Super Lawyer”.
Gerald Sloat’s testimonials reflect his efforts on behalf of his clients and his resume reflects his extensive professional and personal achievements. His firm consists of his partners, Randy Nicholson and Robert Hoover, three paralegals and two support staff.
P. RANDOLPH NICHOLSON - Boulder Injury Attorney
Randolph Nicholson graduated from the University of Connecticut, cum laude, in 1976 with a degree in Business Administration. He attended graduate business school and received a J.D. from the University of Connecticut Law School in 1980.
Following graduation from law school, Mr. Nicholson practiced personal injury and workers compensation law. He moved to Colorado in 1984 and joined Gerald Sloat’s firm in Boulder in 2001.
Mr. Nicholson has numerous published appellate decisions and served on The Board of Directors of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association for 17 years. His resume reflects his legal experience and his professional credentials.
ROBERT S. HOOVER - Boulder Injury Attorney
Robert Hoover graduated from the University of Colorado and he received his Juris Doctor from the John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois in 1993.
Following graduation from law school, Mr. Hoover worked for insurance defense law firms defending medical malpractice and motor vehicle negligence claims. Mr. Hoover relocated to the mountains of Colorado in 2004 and joined Sloat & Nicholson, P.C. in 2013.
Mr. Hoover is admitted to practice in Colorado and Illinois, the United States District Court for Colorado, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Hoover’s resume reflects his legal experience and professional credentials.
MARLA K. MYKLEBY - Paralegal
Marla was born and raised in the Black Hills of South Dakota, obtained her Paralegal degree in 1996 from National American University, and also holds a Master’s degree in Management. Prior to relocating to Boulder and joining Sloat & Nicholson in July 2013, she worked as a Paralegal in South Dakota, Illinois and Arizona for 17 years.
LAURA SIMPSON - Paralegal
Laura was born in Portsmouth, Virginia and grew up on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. She graduated from Miller Motte College where she received her degree in paralegal studies. She worked in Raleigh, North Carolina as a State Bar Certified Paralegal for 4 years before relocating to Colorado and joining Sloat & Nicholson, PC in June 2016.
SARAH ANDERSON - Paralegal
Sarah was born in Missouri and grew up in Missouri and Colorado. She graduated with her Bachelor's degree from Columbia College in 2003 and obtained her Master's degree in Diplomacy from Norwich University in 2006. She has several additional years of doctoral education in Conflict Resolution and 17 years of legal experience. Sarah joined the Sloat & Nicholson team in February 2017.
SUSIE AVERBECK - Business Manager
Susie grew up in Wisconsin and lived in Florida, Hawaii, and New Zealand before arriving in Colorado in 2005. She joined Sloat & Nicholson in 2006 as the firm’s office manager and bookkeeper. Susie graduated from Concordia University in St. Paul Minnesota in 2009 with a Marketing Management degree, and is a Certified Professional Coder with the American Academy of Professional Coders.
LYDIA THOMPSON - Receptionist
Lydia Thompson was born in Chicago and grew up in Boulder and Niwot, Colorado. She is a graduate of Colorado University and taught English in Japan for two years and Colorado public schools for two years. She is the firm’s receptionist and also works as a legal assistant. Lydia has been employed by Sloat and Nicholson, P.C. since 2007.
